One thing I’ve noticed about the law is the gap between knowing and to know

One thing I’ve noticed about the law is that there’s a gap between knowing the law and the people who actually need to know it.

Judges, Lawyers, other legal practitioners and law students sure do know, but what about the public.

Take intellectual property, for example. Many creators may and do not know their rights or how to protect their work.

A 2025 study of 185 copyright owners found that, although many knew about copyright and ownership, a significant number were unaware of the provisions of Nigeria’s Copyright Act 2022.

There is a need to make law easier to understand for this gap to be bridged.

After all, what good is having rights if you don’t know they exist?

This is such an important point. Rights can exist on paper, but people are better positioned to protect them when they understand what those rights mean and how to exercise them. I think making the law accessible, especially in areas like intellectual property, is an important step towards ensuring that creators can protect the work they put so much effort into.

Emmanuella Sarfowaah your contribution is well received and on point especially the fact that we are in a creator boom era and we are seeing lots of infringement, piracy and plagiarism.

Thanks for your contribution Mr Martins Nneji
Actually I'd still say they should keep paying lawyers. I see that the call for lawyers is trending upwards now and it's good
      And still, yes

Indeed it's no good having rights without being aware of it.

So many creators, business owners, and even employees do mot know their intellectual property rights which span across copyright, patent, and trademark.

It is a genuinely progressive we all are doing. Well-done, sir

    1. S David Prince

Tormhen David funny how a lot of people still think registering a business name gives them a trademark. Your insight is well received
