MYTH:
“If I have nothing to hide, I shouldn’t be worried about my data.”
REALITY:
Privacy isn’t about hiding something.
I came across a quote by Edward Snowden
“Arguing that you don’t care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say.”
It is about having control over who gets your information, why they need it, how it is used, and what happens to it afterwards.
Your name, phone number, location, photos, financial information and online activity can all tell a story about you.
And once that information is out there, you may not always know who has access to it or what they can do with it.
So, having nothing to hide doesn’t mean having nothing to protect.
Privacy is a right, not a reward for having secrets.
