I’m pleased to be part of the Career Talk in Law webinar hosted by the LawRit Journal of Law (FUOYE Chapter), which also follows a 10-Day Visibility Challenge.
I decided to hop on and still imagine myself completing this. Well that’s why it’s called a challenge. I’m starting from Day 3 😂, but maybe the point is challenging myself to actually finish something I started.
For this challenge, I’m exploring Law x Technology x Creativity, especially Data Privacy, Internet Law and Intellectual Property.
DAY 3 days “TEACH ONE THING”
Do you know how much data we give away online without really thinking about it?
It’s not just when we type our name and phone number into a form.
Think about your social media apps, location, photos, contacts, searches, device permissions and even browser cookies.
Almost everyone blindly clicks that “accept” and “allow” button.
A study of Nigerian digital consumers found that 90.6% had never even read an entire privacy policy.
That’s why I’ve started paying more attention to things like privacy settings, clearing cookies, and options to download or delete my data.
In the hand of the bad guys your online data can be used for tracking, profiling, manipulation, fraud and other harmful purposes.
The interesting part for me is:
Where does the law come in?
That’s what I’m exploring through Data Privacy and Internet Law.
Tomorrow, I’m digging into what the law actually says.
